Hylomyscus stella

H. stella, Stella Wood Mouse, is a widely distributed rodent throughout the study area, making it an excellent candidate for this study. This species has a well-established taxonomy, is abundant in Central African forests and has been the subject of extensive morphological, craniometric and pelage analysis. The phylogenetic history and karyotype of this taxon and related muroid taxa is well known, and molecular and morphological studies have also been used to trace the biogeographical history and phylogeography of H. stella.
